A BURNLEY nursery has been rated ‘inadequate’ after inspectors found arrangements for safeguarding were ‘weak’ and the owner had an ‘unrealistic view of the nursery’s effectiveness’.
Bright Beginnings Burnley had failed to improve after a recent inspection and was rated ‘inadequate’ in four areas including for effectiveness of leadership, quality of teaching, personal development and outcomes for children.
Inspector Patricia Graham said Ofsted intends to take enforcement action and could cancel the provider’s registration.
The nursery, which is based in the neighbourhood office in Brunshaw Avenue, has 90 children on the roll.
Miss Graham said: “Arrangements for safeguarding children are weak. Staff do not have up-to-date knowledge of child protection procedures.
“Children and babies’ good health is not consistently promoted. They receive meals that are high in salt and sugar, which also hinders their opportunities to learn about healthy choices.
“Insufficient staff caring for very young children have received training that specifically addresses the care of babies.”
However she said the staff are kind in their approach.
A nursery spokesman said it is challenging the findings and were therefore unable to comment.
