A PENSIONER has died following a crash in which a car hit a parked van.

Police said the 80-year-old man was a passenger in a Renault Captur which was travelling down Rossendale Road, Burnley, when it crashed into a Volkswagen Vito.

A 38-year-old man from Burnley, believed to be the passenger’s son, was arrested at the scene of the crash on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

Police said he is continuing to assist them with their enquiries.

Following the crash which happened at around 9.30pm on Saturday, April 1, the passenger was taken Royal Preston Hospital.

Yesterday police confirmed he had died from his injuries.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses following the ‘tragic incident’.

Sgt Dave Hurst said: “This is a tragic incident and my thoughts are with the family of the man who has sadly died.

“An investigation to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the collision is underway and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed what happened to get in touch with us.

“I am keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the white Captur being driven between Cliviger and the location of the collision, especially those who may have dash cam footage.”
