A BAFTA-WINNING comedy series starring Peter Kay, which was partially shot in Burnley, is set to have viewers eagerly trying to spot locations close to home.

Last May, the funnyman was in the town filming the second series of Car Share.

Mr Kay and co-star Sian Gibson, his friend since they were at university together, were at Banny’s Drive Through fish and chip restaurant in Trafalgar Street.

The Bolton-born comic was spotted filming in the town by several residents and even stopped for photographs with fans.

The show won best comedy show award at 2016 National Television Awards, and picked up best male performance in a comedy programme and best scripted comedy at the 2016 BATAs.

Car Share was co-created by Peter Kay and Paul Coleman, with whom he has previously worked as script editor for Max and Paddy’s Road to Nowhere and co-writing Britain’s Got the Pop Factor.

The show tells the story of John Redmond, played by Mr Kay, who is forced into a company car share scheme alongside his colleague Kayleigh, played by Mrs Gibson, and the pair’s friendship develops during the series.

No clues have been released about whether other locations in East Lancashire will feature in the new series.

The first series also included backdrops of some roads near Chorley.

Speaking last week Mr Kay said he was worried whether the format of the show would work.

He said: “I was always worried that viewers may not have the patience to stay with such a simple idea of two people commuting to work.

“Especially in this fast-paced day and age with so many options to watch.”

He said he had written the new episodes when penning the first series.

He added: “We didn’t know if the BBC would want a second series."
