A COMMUNITY campaigner has called for a pot hole-ridden road that ‘looks like the surface of the moon’ to be repaired.

Andrew Fewings, from Burnley, has appealed for Evans Street to be looked at after several deep holes have appeared in the last 12 months.

The road is unadopted so Lancashire County Council, the highways authority, is not responsible for maintaining it.

A legal duty to maintain the road still exists and this falls under the owners, Burnley Council.

Mr Fewings said the condition of the road is putting the safety of children, elderly and vulnerable residents at risk.

He said: “It looks like the surface of the moon, it certainly looks like something off another world.

“Who would believe we would have roads like that in Britain in 2017, it’s a scandal.

“I’m worried because there’s a green space and park one side of the roads."

A Burnley Council spokesman said: “Evans Street is an unadopted highway and so the legal requirement is to leave it in a passable state.

"Work to fill and level the worst of the potholes with asphalt planings is due to take place in the next few weeks.”
