THE leader of Unite has visited a Burnley firm and called on government ministers to implement an industrial strategy to support the country’s aerospace industry.
Len McCluskey, the union’s general secretary, visited Safran Nacelles yesterday.
Mr McCluskey, who is standing for re-election, met Unite members and reps and warned of the impact of a hard Brexit on North West industries that rely on tariff-free access to the European single market.
He said: “With Theresa May pursuing a hard Brexit it is more important than ever that Unite continues to lead the way in pressing for an exit strategy that supports jobs, preserve workers’ rights and conditions and provides continued tariff-free access to markets, along with investment and a positive forward industrial strategy for decent jobs.”
He said Mrs May should keep the industry strong.
