A 25-YEAR-OLD Burnley man was jailed for 28 weeks after being caught behind the wheel a month after being banned for disqualified driving.

Blackburn magistrates heard Toheed Ahmed had been caught driving despite being made subject to a suspended prison sentence in December.

Ahmed, of Brougham Street, Burnley, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance.

He was jailed for 28 weeks, banned from driving for three years and ordered to pay £115 victim surcharge.

Jailing him the chairman of the magistrates said Ahmed had shown total disregard for the order of the court.

“You were given a chance in December and you just ignored that,” he added.

Richard Taylor, defending, said Ahmed had owned a business called Bury Car Rentals and all the cars were in his name. He said: “When-ever a customer committed a motoring offence he received the producer and he was overwhelmed by the paperwork.”

“He got a lot of points and was disqualified. At the moment he is in the process of appealing against each and every one of those cases.”

Mr Taylor said despite the background Ahmed was banned from driving and accepted he was aware of that.

“He finished the car rental business and got a job at a call centre in Bury,” said Mr Taylor. “On the day of this offence a friend offered him the use of his car to go to work and he foolishly accepted.”
