A MAN who broke the jaw of a former student after attacking him in a Burnley pub has been given a suspended prison sentence.
Burnley Crown Court was shown shocking CCTV footage of Jonathan Champkin raining down punches on his victim Simon Palmer during the attack in The Turf pub in September last year.
The court heard unemployed former groundworker Champkin had become angered at something Mr Palmer had said to his girlfriend and because the victim would not acknowledge he had attended the same college as him.

Champkin, 33, of Branch Road in Burnley, had initially claimed he had acted in self-defence but pleaded guilty to a charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm at a hearing in September.
Champkin, who the court heard has previous convictions for assaulting a police officer, disorderly behaviour at football and battery, was given a 16-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.
