A TUMBLE dryer fire 'completely destroyed' a kitchen in a house in Burnley this morning.

Two fire crews were called to Hodder Street at 1.15am after a tumble dryer caught fire.

Lee Pennington, acting watch manager at Burnley fire, said the fire had 'gone wild' and burnt through the kitchen

There was also severe smoke damage to the living room and first floor.

He said: "A woman and her daughter managed to get out of the house without any serious injuries because they were woken up by their fire alarm.

"We cannot stress enough about how vital it is to have a working alarm because the two people inside the house could have died without it.

"The house is now inhabitable and the pair are living with family for the foreseeable future as the kitchen has been completely destroyed.

"The fire had gone wild and the flames were quite big.

"The cause of how the appliance fire started is under investigation.

"We left about an hour and 30 minutes after arriving and securely boarded up the house."
