POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a woman had £400 snatched from her in Burnley town centre.

It took place at midday on June 6 when the 33-year-old woman had just withdrawn the money from the Santander bank on St James Street and put it in a plastic wallet.

A short time later, as she was near Barclays bank, a man ran past and snatched the wallet from her hand before running off.

The man is described as white, aged in his 20s, approximately 5ft 6in, medium build with stubble.

He is believed to have been wearing a white baseball call with a pattern on the front and a white t-shirt and shorts.

PC Kevin Hadfield of Burnley Police said: "This woman has had a substantial amount of cash stolen from her as she walked through Burnley town centre and we are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or recognises the description of the man.

"I would urge anyone who has any information that could help with our enquiries to get in touch with us as soon as possible."
