And after cutting herself on the broken glass, clambering in, Driver used items of clothing including a pair of jeans and underwear belonging to Jade Hodkinson to mop up her blood, the court heard.

Passing sentence, Judge Ian Leeming QC said the break-in, committed while she was drunk, was a 'disgraceful' piece of behaviour.

But the judge allowed her to retain her liberty, after she had spent three weeks behind bars for breaching her bail.

Driver, of Clare Street, Burnley, who admitted burglary with intent to cause criminal damage and criminal damage, was given a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.

She must complete 100 hours of community service and take part in rehabilitation work for at least 20 days, as well as paying £100 in compensation to Miss Hodkinson.

William Donnelly, prosecuting, said Mr Barrett had only been away for a couple of days when he returned home to find his kitchen window had been broken and various items of his partner's clothing was inside, smeared with blood.

An investigation led to Driver, who had even texted a friend, shortly after the burglary to confess that she had 'done something bad'.

The court heard that Driver also had a conviction from April 2015, for battery and criminal damage, in relation to the new girlfriend.

Alan Taylor, defending, said: "This was an offence of such complete stupidity and naivety on her part. But nevertheless these are people who were putting Facebook messages about her and she felt slighted and hurt by what was being done."

Driver, now 22, was remorseful about the damage she had caused, the court heard, but insisted she had not gone around initially to carry out a burglary. She had wanted to confront her ex-partner directly and only threw the brick when she could get no reply.
