Police have confirmed that the girl, said to be from the Oldham area, met a man in Manchester city centre, after which struck up a conversation.

Later the pair travelled back to the Burnley area together, where the man is then said to have taken her to an unknown address.

Once inside the property, it is alleged that the girl was then repeatedly raped throughout the course of the night, before being allowed to leave the next morning.

Officers said she returned home to Greater Manchester and later reported the incident to police.

The incident is said to have taken place between the night of Sunday, February 8, last year, and the following morning.

Police have confirmed that they have been following 'several other lines of enquiry' before taking the decision to release the CCTV still.

Det Con Cath Lee, who is investigating the alleged rape, said: "We are still determined to find the person responsible for this horrendous sexual assault on a young teenage girl.

"This attack left the victim so traumatised that she tried to take her own life shortly after it happened.

"She has been supported throughout by specially trained officers.

"I am asking anyone who knows this man or may have any information about this incident to get in touch."

The girl has been unable to pinpoint which area of Burnley she was eventually taken to.

People who may have been on the X43 bus, which travels through Prestwich, Rawtenstall and Crawshawbooth before arriving in Burnley, and saw the pair en-route, are being asked to contact Burnley CID with any details.

Those who can assist are asked to quote log number LC-20150212-0529 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111, or the website at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.uk.
