A WOMAN and a child had to be evacuated from a one storey flat after an electrical box generated a lot of smoke.

Firefighters were called to the home in Oxford Place in Burnley at 7.30pm yesterday (Monday, November 9) to find an electrical box had started to spark and was giving off a lot of smoke.

The woman and child sustained no injures and two crews from Burnley and one crew from Padiham used a portable fan to extract the smoke and used a thermal imaging camera to check for any remaining hot-spots within the building.

The crews were there for around 45 minutes and there was no damage caused to other buildings or nearby areas.
