PLANS for a second Aldi store in Burnley have been approved by the council.

The shop will be built in Todmorden Road, near the junction with Holmes Street, on land occupied by an industrial unit, car washing facility and scrap metal storage site.

The move will create around 40 jobs and the company said that 96 per cent of people who took part in a consultation were in support of the plan.

An Aldi spokesman said: “We are delighted that our proposal for Todmorden Road has been successful and would like to thank the local community for their continued support. The approval will help us provide a large number of much-needed jobs.

“Many residents told us that they currently travel across town to visit our store at Active Way, and a new store in this location would be beneficial for local people, especially for those without access to personal transport.”

The store opens in 2017.
