A FUNDRAISING event is being held in memory of a Burnley girl who lost her battle with a rare form of childhood cancer.

The elder sister of Paris Devlin, who died of neuroblastoma when she was just five, has arranged a Halloween fancy dress party to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Paige Devlin, 22, said she wanted to ‘give something back’ to others who suffer from cancer.

She said: “Paris had been ill for three weeks and had only been diagnosed with the cancer a week before she died. She suffered and her condition wasn’t recognised early.

“If there’s more awareness then it might help prolong somebody else’s life.”

Paris died in 2007 when Paige was just 14 and she said she has fond memories of them dressing up together for Halloween.

“Paris loved fancy dress and I remember her dressing as Little Bo Peep. We all still miss her so much, so it’s a good way to celebrate her life,” said Paige.

The fundraiser is also in memory of Paige’s grandad Tony, who died from cancer shortly after Paris passed away.

She said: “My grandad just gave up when Paris died so we will be thinking of him too.”

Paris was a pupil at Cherry Fold Primary School, and she lived with her grandparents Tony and Ann Devlin, her mum Maria and sisters Toniann and Marny and had another sister, Carla.

The event is being held on October 31 at 5pm at the Victoria Inn in Colne Road, Burnley. There will be games, entertainment, face painting and more.

Paige added: “It’s going to be an event for the whole community – not just for our family and friends. “Everybody knows somebody who has been affected by cancer so we are calling for everybody to come and join in.

“We want to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan because the work they do is fantastic.”
