NEIGHBOURS raised the alarm when a Burnley woman had not been seen for days, an inquest heard.

And when nearby householders searched for Joyce Orandi, 46, she was found dead in the bedroom of her Brent Street home on June 13, Burnley Coroner’s Court was told.

She was found half-in, half-out of the bedroom and a post-mortem by consultant pathologist Dr Mohammed Aslan discovered she had suffered from a skull fracture and bruising to her head and face.

The injuries were consistent with a fall and the cause of death was given as the head injury, linked to liver cirrhosis, the court was told.

According to her GP, Dr Imran Khan, Mrs Orandi had suffered from alcohol problems since at least 1986.

There had been a number of attempts at detoxification and she had suffered from chronic ulcers and pancreatitis as a result. She had also encountered diabetic complications, further affecting her health.

Dr Khan said there was also some evidence, at some stage, of her also abusing other substances.

Recording an accidental verdict, East Lancashire coroner Richard Taylor said: “ It appears she has suffered from a fall, and as a result has the injuries which we see at the post-mortem examination.

“There is no evidence to suppose this is anything other than an accident and that is the conclusion.”
