MUSIC lovers returned to Burnley as a major festival marked its second year.

DJs and performers from across the region took to the stage in Towneley Park on Friday and Saturday to entertain the crowds and raise money for charity.

Drop The Beat kicked off with original Cat’s Whiskers DJ Lee Simons spinning some classic tunes, alongside Ska Face, The Sex Pistols Experience and tribute act King of Lyon.

And on Saturday the picturesque park had a ‘Madchester’ feel as tribute acts The Clone Roses, Oasis UK and Happy Mondaze created a baggy vibe, alongside DJs such as Krysko, Mark XTC and Jane Angel in the outer arenas.

Around 2,000 people took in the music and atmosphere at this year’s festival, which was double the number that came to the inaugural event in 2014.

Promoter Madge Nawaz, who arranged the festival’s return with DJ Craig Kennedy, said: “This year was absolutely amazing and I can’t believe that we managed to double the people who attended from last year.

“We worked hard to make it a more family-friendly event this year and I think we pulled it off.

“Friday’s horrible weather did not help us but Saturday was much better.

“We are going to sit down with the council and talk about what we can do for next year.

“I want it to be bigger and better and I know that the council want it to be even more family-friendly.

“We are going to move the event from a Friday and Saturday to a Saturday and Sunday which I think will help with that.

“I’m really pleased with the way the last two events have gone and I hope that the coming years will prove to be even more successful.

“This kind of event is our way of trying to bring more people into Burnley. I hope that we are making a difference in the area.”

The charity FEW and Pendleside Hospice will be among the beneficiaries this year and the military charity Salute was involved in activities inside the main arena.

Legendary Manchester Hacienda group K-Klass also made the line up alongside world-class DJ and Kissdafunk founder Rob Tissera, veteran DJ Stu Allan and around 40 other music acts.
