A PROLIFIC offender who was caught by police in a stolen car has been given six months to prove that he can turn his life around.

Ryan Ashe, 21, was offered a lift in a stolen Ford Fiesta after a burglary, in the early hours of May 27, Burnley Crown Court was told.

Police spotted the vehicle at around 1.40am in the Coal Clough Lane and the driver accelerated away, prompting a brief chase. The car was eventually halted when a ‘stinger’ device deployed by police managed to puncture tyres, the court heard.

Ashe, of Healey Wood Road, Burnley, was originally charged with the burglary but this was later dropped and he admitted a charge of allowing himself to be carried in a stolen car.

Mark Stuart, defending, said Ashe had been having problems with accommodation.

The defendant was a passenger in the vehicle and had caused the vehicle to stop.

Judge Beverley Lunt adjourned the sentence on Ashe, who has 68 previous convictions, until January to check on his progress.
