DETECTIVES investigating the murder of 49-year-old Stephen Whitehead have released a suspect without charge.
The 34-year-old man, from Burnley, had spent the day being quizzed after being held on suspicion of murder this morning.
A spokesman for Lancashire Police said a team of more than 50 officers were continuing their investigation, and again appealed for those with information to come forward.
Detective Superintendent Paul Withers, from the Force Major Investigation Team (FMIT), had yesterday described the killing as a 'whodunnit'.
Mr Whitehead's body was found inside Pendle Skips, on the Heasandford Industrial Estate in Burnley, where he had been working and sleeping, at around 8am on Monday.
He had been attacked with a blunt instrument and died as a result of several significant head injuries.
Mr Whitehead was last seen drinking in The Princess Royal, in Yorkshire Street, and the White Lion, in St James Street, on Saturday night.
He was also spotted shopping in Tesco Extra in Centenary Way at around 7pm.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting reference 182 of July 27.
Alternatively they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at Crimestoppers-uk.org.
