THE Samaritans are to work with Network Rail to help support passengers and staff who were affected by the incident where a man was struck by a train in Brierfield.
Police and paramedics were called to a section of track just outside Brierfield Railway Station at around 3pm on Friday, and the man, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A number of volunteers plan to meet the same train this afternoon, handing out information cards and raising awareness of the support available 24/7 from the Samaritans.
Ian Hartley, director of Pendle, Burnley, Craven and Rossendale Samaritans, said: “We were very saddened to hear about the death on the railway at Brierfield.
“Samaritans’ trained volunteers are available 24/7 to offer confidential, non-judgemental support to anyone struggling to cope or feeling suicidal. We believe that talking about your situation can help alleviate despair.”
