A YOUNG crack cocaine dealer who handed himself in a police station front counter has been locked up for for 18 months at Burnley Crown Court.

In ‘bizarre’ circumstances Abdul Ahad, 20, walked into Burnley’s Parker Lane police station and handed over 17 pre-prepared deals and £210 in cash he had made out on the streets.

Later it emerged that Ahad, then aged 19, who also handed over the phone he used during his activities, may have been ‘frightened’ after getting into the drugs trade ‘over his head’ and being threatened by his supplier.

His street deals amounted to 2.86 grams of crack cocaine. He already had convictions for cannabis and weapons offences when he was younger.

Last July Ahad, of Kent Street, Burnley, was given a two-year youth custody term, suspended for two years, after admitting to possession of crack cocaine with intent to supply crack cocaine.

He was also given two years probation supervision and ordered to complete 300 hours community service as part of his sentence.

But Kimberley Obrusik, representing the probation service, said there had been repeated absences recorded against Ahad and several instances of failing to make supervision appointments.

The court heard he had only carried out 133 hours of community service, with his last attendance noted in May. He had already been brought before the court once before on breach proceedings.

Daniel Thomas, defending, said: “It has, for him, only been a very short period of offending, when one looks at his record, between December 2013 and February 2014.

“There have been no issues since then, other than a lack of compliance with these court orders.

“I can only ask for leniency and pray in aid his age and, to a certain extent, his record.”

Passing sentence, Judge Beverly Lunt said the defendant had only been before the court eight weeks ago in relation to his first suspended sentence order breach.

“You are plainly not going to comply with the order that I made and therefore I am going to activate your suspended sentence.”

The court heard that Ahad also faced a kidnapping charge on the Isle of Man but the defendant was awaiting the filing of a possible retraction statement by the alleged victim.
