A CURRY and quiz night 1,300 miles away on the Algarve raised 534 euros (£380) for Pendleside Hospice.
The event was in aid of the Gail Simpson Memorial Fund and was held by Gail's sister Linda who emigrated to Portugal 25 years ago.
Linda, a former home economics teacher at St Hilda's RC High School, Burnley, invited 14 friends to her and her husband's villa in sao laurenco, Almancil.
Linda said: "I have seen how everyone is working so hard in Burnley to raise money for Gail's fund so I decided to so something in Portugal in her memory. People have been so generous supplying raffle prizes and contributing money on the night."
Linda recently took early retirement as a primary school teacher at an international school near Almancil. Husband David runs a transport and storage company.
Their sons Jamie, 31, is a civil engineer, in Cape Verde, and Matthew, 28, is an architect in Copenhagen.
The family lived in Stony Bank Road, Earby, and ran a newsagents in the town centre before heading for the sun.
