PLANS for a two-storey extension at a popular doctor's surgery in Burnley have been submitted to council development bosses.

Proposals have been unveiled by Dr Anjum Iqbal to extend the front of the Ightenhill Medical Centre in Tabor Street.

He has told borough planners that the work would improve the reception facilities and waiting area.

The proposed side extension, which forms part of the overall scheme, would create a classroom or staff room, to provide either a training facility or additional provisions for staff.

Dr Iqbal, the principal GP at the centre, said: "The new extension will be constructed in artificial stone, with a concrete tiled roof and windows to match the existing building."

He has also confirmed that parking numbers would not be affect by the development, though there would be a slight alteration required to the existing disabled access ramp. The centre has been offering extended hours for patients on alternate Tuesday or Thursday nights since last February.
