BURNLEY born James Anderson has received an OBE in recognition of his outstanding career.

Anderson, 32 who has spoken of his pride at being honoured and the 'enormous amount' it means to him and his family, has had a memorable year already - overtaking Sir Ian Botham as England's all-time leading Test wicket-taker two months ago and since becoming the first from this country to reach 400.

Anderson is following many of his contemporaries into the Honours list - after the entire 2005 Ashes-winning team were recognised with MBEs or OBEs.

A decade on, as Anderson prepares for his sixth Ashes campaign, he too is decorated.

He was on the periphery of the England team in 2005, having begun his international career two years earlier.

On receiving his OBE, Anderson said: "This means an enormous amount to me and my family.

"I'm very proud of my recent achievements, and this just caps it off."

He was at pains to thank all those who have helped him along the way too, adding: "These achievements wouldn't have been possible without the help and support of my family, friends and everyone at Burnley CC, Lancs CCC and England."
