A FUN fair last seen in Padiham decades ago is making a return this weekend.

The annual Whit Walks event takes place on Sunday and, for the first time in a generation, a fun day will run alongside the annual Procession of Witnesses at St Leonard’s Primary School playing fields.

Organisers are hoping families will embrace the event, but with heavy rain due across East Lancashire, they will be keeping their fingers crossed that the forecasters have got it wrong.

Kath Ashcroft said: “ “It is time for people to start loving Padiham again.”

The Whit Walks procession in the town has been taking place for over 100 years, with representatives from all the churches marching side by side through the streets.

Horses and Ponies Protection Association will also be hoping for better weather on Sunday as they hold a novelty dog show in Towneley Park from 1-4pm.

On Saturday a parade takes place from Accrington Town Hall at 11.30am as Cllr Marlene Haworth is confirmed as the new mayor of Hyndburn.

The parade is followed by a service at St James’ Church at 11.45am.

Saturday’s forecast is for some sun to sneak out later in the day, although temperatures will only sneak into double figures.

The KSC Club, in Yorkshire Street, Burnley, will be hoping for good weather as they host their Beer and Bangers Festival from midday until late.

At Mill Hill Community Centre, in New Chapel Street, Blackburn, a model exhibition takes place from 10am-5pm, with tickets £4 for adults and £2 for concessions.
