WHEN it comes to cars, Clarets fans are most at home with convertibles - which is probably just as well when the sideways rain hits Turf Moor.

And while there aren’t many Burnley fans with a sunny disposition right now, it appears they view their beloved club as a coupe for all seasons.

Car hire bosses have polled Premier League supporters up and down the land about which kind of motor puts them in mind of their team.

Only Ashley Barnes’ nifty grey Smart Car, a snip at £11,000 and a hangover from his Brighton days, has stood out when the players park up for training or a match.

“It’s intriguing to see the different car types to which football fans liken their clubs,” said Ken McCall, the car hire firm’s managing director.

Perhaps not surprisingly, Man United and Arsenal followers believe the perennial front-runners resemble a ‘super car’.

Patrons of Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City could be forgiven for selecting ‘sports car’, as their pick, Stoke City, Everton and QPR fans maybe less so. Some of those more used to mid-table and relegation battles, like Crystal Palace and Sunderland, opted for the more realistic ‘saloon car’.

The Burnley fans were not alone in their convertible dreams - their erstwhile relegation rivals Leicester City had similar aspirations. And Southampton supporters could picture Burnley-born Jay Rodriguez and his team-mates, cruising with the top down.
