BASIC first aid skills were on offer at Burnley Central Library yesterday, as part of a project launched after Ted Robbins’ recovery from a heart attack.

The 59-year-old actor and BBC Radio Lancashire presenter, of Crawshawbooth, had a heart attack in front of a sell-out crowd at the Manchester Arena on January 31.

But the Phoenix Nights star was saved by a paramedic in the audience, who rushed to the stage and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and a series of training sessions have since been launched by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and BBC Radio Lancashire.

Julie Ward, senior cardiac nurse at the BHF, said: “We are grateful to BBC Radio Lancashire for raising awareness of how important it is to know CPR.

“Worryingly in the UK, less than one in ten people survive an out of hospital cardiac arrest, which is most likely to happen in the home, in front of loved ones or friends.”
