BRITISH-born Iranian comic and actor Omid Djalili will take to the stage in Burnley next month.

Omid’s show, Iranalamadingdong, will be held at the Burnley Mechanics Theatre, in Manchester Road, from 8pm on Tuesday, March 10.

Omid’s credits include the Fagin in West-End smash-hit Oliver!, Dr Rance in Joe Orton’s What The Butler Saw and Mahmud Nasir in The Infidel, Sex and the City Two, Mr. Nice and Moonfleet with Ray Winstone on Sky One.

A firm favourite at the Edinburgh Festival with his legendary performances, last year Omid starred in a new stage play of The Shawshank Redemption.

He played the character of Red, who was played by Morgan Freeman in the 1994 film version, to critical acclaim.

The Times described his role as a “solid nuanced performance, creates a full-hearted character to stand alongside any.”

Omid’s stand-up awards include; ’Time Out Award’ - for Best Stand Up, the ‘EMMA Award’ and was a ‘South Bank Award’ nominee as well as being a ‘Perrier Award’ nominee.

The new show will see Omid discuss themes of overcoming your fears, relationships, the perils of celebrity and getting older.

Omid said: “A lot of men in their forties try to do things to prove themselves.

“For me it was a choice of going on tour, learning to ride a unicycle or understanding Judaism.”
