The trip is one of four different challenges taking place throughout the year organised by Burnley FC in the community, the official charity of the football club.

The week-long mission, based in Woe, Ghana, is run in conjunction with African Adventures. The charity is returning to Woe to build on the community development work it carried out last year.

Other challenges planned this year also include The Big Away Day Bike Ride, which will see participants cycle from the Burnley v West Ham game at Upton Park to the KC Stadium to watch Burnley take on Hull City – via every premier league ground, and a trek up Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales as well the Pennine Lancashire 10k run.

Neil Hart, head of Burnley FC in the Community, said: “This is the inaugural year for the Clarets Challenges and a really exciting time for individuals and groups to come and get involved in what we’re doing.

“The challenges include an almost 500-mile cycle ride, the Pennine Lancs 10k run and a trek up Snowdon, as well as our week-long trip to Ghana later this year.

“As a registered charity, we rely solely on fundraising, sponsorship and grants to do the work we do, and so these activities not only pose a fantastic personal fitness challenge but they also offer the chance to really make a difference by raising money for Burnley FC in the Community and other local charities. If you’d like to help us do something amazing for our community this year then please get in touch.”

The challenges will raise funds for projects and programmes being carried out by Burnley FC in the Community and other charities local to Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale.

They are open to anyone, however volunteers aged 16 and under would need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

An information evening about the challenges will be taking place in the 1882 lounge at Turf Moor on Wednesday February 25 from 5.30pm. All attendees should report to the Bob Lord Stand reception.
