AN ENRICHMENT programme has been launched at a Padiham school to help them make the switch to secondary education.

Shuttleworth College, in Burnley Road, has established the initiative to assist year six pupils, at primary schools in Padiham and the west of Burnley, adapt to high school life in September 2015.

Assistant headteacher Holly Clarke is responsible for the fun and educational programme and is being assisted by the current crop of year seven students, who will be mentoring and supporting what they hope will be the next potential intake of Shuttleworth pupils.

The sessions are being held every Thursday and include taster language sessions, food technology, music, drama, library funtime and dance and basketball.

The school’s year nine Duke of Edinburgh award scheme students will also be on hand to help with the pilot.

Mrs Clarke said: “We believe these activities will provide a great opportunity to experience a true taste of secondary school life.

“This one hour of enrichment each week allows students to build friendships, work with their future teachers and become familiar with a new setting.”
