A FORMER cinema complex in Padiham is to be given a new lease of life as a hair stylists, beauty salon and taxi office.

More recently the former Globe Works, in Mill Street, has been used as a manufacturing unit, warehousing and office space, councillors were told.

Project Padiham officials said they had no objections to the development but had concerns regarding the taxi office.

One objector, a staff nurse, expressed concerns over the potential for parking problems on the narrow Mill Street, as he required 24-hour access.

But Coun Anne Kelly said: “It is a grotty little building and if someone is prepared to put the time in then we should be encouraging them.

“It is going to be a call centre operation rather than a taxi office and the intention is to have only four taxis parked up there.”

Town councillors in Padiham welcomed the building being brought back into use and commended the work carried out so far.

County highways officials raised no objections to the proposals, after hearing that four parking spaces would be provided for the four cabs associated with the taxi operation.
