A SIXTEEN-year-old girl was left shaken after men in two cars became abusive after offering her a lift in Burnley.

The girl was waiting for a bus in Colne Road, Reedley, at around 7pm on Saturday when a silver car, thought to be an Audi, pulled up beside her.

The girl's mother, who did not wish to be named, has written a Facebook post, appealing to her community to be vigilant and report any similar incidents.

She said: “First of all, the men tried flattery and offered her a lift but as she ignored them they quickly became abusive and started shouting at her to get in the vehicle, trying to intimidate her.

"They eventually drove away but a few minutes later a second car approached filled with older, more aggressive men, who shouted at her and tried to intimidate her into the vehicle.

"This has left her very shaken and I am obviously concerned as a mother. This is the second time it’s happened and they appear to be organised. The police are involved but this is a community problem that needs a community response.

“I want everyone to alert their children to this.”

Lancashire Police confirmed they were investigating the incident.

Colne and West Craven Police have now issued a warning to young people in the area not to walk alone in the evenings and to let people know where they are going and when they are due to arrive.

A spokesperson said: “The male occupants made unwanted comments to the lone female which have frightened and intimated her. Police did attend the area and are making enquiries into this incident.

“If a car or person approaches you, ignore them, walk off, and if you are afraid go into the nearest shop, pub, or other public place and ask someone for help. Note the make and model and registration of the car and always notify police of any types of these incidents.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Lancashire Police on 101.
