ITALIAN supporters made it a real carnival atmosphere as the Clarets romped to a 3-1 win against Serie A opponents.

More than 200 Hellas Verona supporters came to Turf Moor, although most of them only just made kick-off as it is understood they didn’t set off from northern Italy until 10am.

And following on from the family fun day organised by Burnley FC outside the ground before the game, the Italians helped provide a colourful atmosphere throughout.

A spokesman for Burnley FC said: “It was great to have so many fans travel across for the game. They made it more of an occasion and I think our fans really enjoyed the international flavour of the day.”

Verona, whose team includes former Italy international striker Luca Toni, finished 10th in last season’s Italian top flight, recording wins against top sides including AC Milan and Lazio.

Before the match, a family fun day took place in the Turf Moor car park.
