Tories select Lancashire Police Crime Commissioner

THE Conservative candidate standing for Lancashire Police Crime Commissioner has been unveiled as County Coun Tim Ashton.

The Wyre-based councillor was selected by fellow party members at the De Vere Hotel, Blackpool, at the weekend.

He will now stand against stand against Labour candidate County Coun Clive Grunshaw on November 15.

The controversial Crime Commissioner post will take over from the Lancashire Police Authority and will hold the force to account.

County Coun Ashton, who lives in Lytham and is cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “I am very pleased to have been selected. I have worked very hard to make this happen and the role of crime commissioner is something I am very interested in.

“Lancashire Police does a great job, especially the neighbourhood policing teams, and I hope to be able to build on that good work.”

Bet all he can think of is fleecing the locals for petty traffic offences like ignoring his Corporate Nazi 20 Mph Zones, we will probably end up with more speed scameras whilst the policing of real crime falls by the wayside !

"The controversial Crime Commissioner post will take over from the Lancashire Police Authority and will hold the force to account."

If one appreciates the history of public accountability, particularly the Roman view of the importance of accounts, then one will understand the implication of this remark.

With all the cuts to the police will the amount we pay the council for policing go down ?

No, because the police are funded from two separate sources - the Police precept collected locally through the Council and central government. The cuts are being made to the funding from central government.

Another step to becoming a region of the E.U
As the electorate in this country are to apathetic for their own good. I think we will get the policing we deserve.

I wonder how long it will be before we see yet another U-Turn by this useless Tory government on this issue?

Tim Ashton's arrogance knows no bounds! Lancashire's arbitary 20mph limits were the brain-child of this imbecile.

We need honorable people standing, not ex Councillors and the like who are just looking to stick there noses in another public trough.
