Pair hurt in motorbike accident near Darwen

A MOTORCYCLIST and his passenger suffered serious injuries after a bike left a rural road near Darwen.

An investigation is under way after the pair came off a motorbike at Stones Bank Road, near the A666 at Egerton, at around 5pm yesterday.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said that the couple’s injuries were thought to be ‘serious but not life threatening’.

No other vehicle is believed to have been involved in the tea time crash, close to Delph Reservoir.

Emergency services gave consideration to drafting in the Helimed service, because of the remote location of the incident.

But eventually the male rider was taken by a road ambulance to the Royal Preston Hospital for injuries including broken ribs.

His female passenger was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital in a similar condition.

The main A666 road between Egerton and Darwen was closed for just over an hour while the casualties were dealt with.
