Darwen road reopens after accident

A MOTORCYCLIST and his passenger suffered serious injuries after a bike left a rural road near Darwen.

An investigation is underway after the pair came off a motorbike at Stones Bank Road, near the A666 at Egerton, at around 5pm.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said that the couple’s injuries were thought to be ‘serious but not life threatening’.

No other vehicle is believed to have been involved in the teatime crash, close to Delph Reservoir.

Emergency services gave consideration to drafting in the Helimed service, because of the remote location of the incident.

But eventually the male rider was taken by a road ambulance to the Royal Preston Hospital for injuries including broken ribs. His female passenger was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital in a similar condition.

The main A666 road between Egerton and Darwen was closed for just over an hour while the casualties were dealt with.

helps if it is written by people with local knowledge. Earnsdale Road is on Blackburn Road at Hollins Grove. Absolutely no idea where Church Street is. Hopefully all is well and no one too greatly hurt.
Bolton Road for information begins at the circus up to Bolton and starts again at the boundary after the golden cup.

Earnsdale Road is ON Blackburn Road, don't think so, maybe OFF Blackburn Road.
If Bolton Road goes from the Circus up to Bolton, where has Cemetery Road gone ??
Church Street is OFF Railway Road leading up to St Peter's Church.

Wrong again! Church Street runs from the main A666 road to St Peter's Church, and Railway Road is off Church Street, leading to the station.

Still, a better attempt than the LET having Earnsdale Road off Bolton Road - it's nowhere near it!

The article says "emergency services gave consideration to drafting in the Helimed service." We were actually stuck in a queue of traffic when they closed the road to deal with this accident. The road was closed primarily because the helicopter's blades were over-hanging the road and we watched the helicopter take off with the casualty/casualties on board!
