East Lancashire diabetic eye service up for award

EAST Lancashire Hospitals’ diabetic eye service is in the running for a national award.

The service is a finalist in the the ‘Best early detection and prevention initiative category’ of the NHS Quality in Care for Diabetes Awards 2012.

The service has offered diabetic patients an annual diabetic retinopathy, early detection and prevention screening appointment since its inception in 2006, with many notable successes.

It offers screening to 120 patients a day and gives patients access to clinics from 12 community-based venues.

Dr Chintan Sanghvi said: “We continually strive to provide an efficient, patient-centred, clinically excellent screening service which aims to detect chan-ges of diabetic retinopathy bef- ore they become sight threatening.

“It is a privilege to provide clinical leadership to a group of dedicated professionals at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust who are committed to providing our patients with a quality service.”

My appointment has been cancelled three times this year, so i cannot see how they can say they are commited to providing our patients with a quality service.
