East Lancashire people warned over firework safety
9:53am Monday 15th October 2012 in News
WITH fireworks going on sale across the country today, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) is urging families to stay safe and remember the firework code.
Sheila Merrill, RoSPA’s public health adviser, said: “Planning in advance for fireworks parties at home is key to putting on a safe, and impressive, display. Ask yourself questions, such as, do you have enough space for your guests to watch from a safe distance, and will there be lots of children around?
“Sparklers should not be given to children under five, and should be lit one at a time. Gloves should be worn for protection. Each year, hundreds of people are injured by fireworks on, and around, Bonfire Night, and many more people are injured at private parties than at large public displays.
“Make sure you know what to do if things go wrong. Don’t leave safety until the last minute.”

And why should people who dont misuse fireworks be stopped from enjoying them sensibly at home and at private bonfire/firework parties? All you are doing by banning them is making them more desireable albeit illegally with the safety/quality of the unknown origin import fireworks questionable and variable that could injure the user or those watching them. Is that what you want?

.
Let me ask you this, ant, . . . . . have you ever had a member of your own family hurt by a firework where you thought "reasonable and responsible people" were in charge? I HAVE !! . . and the distress stays.

failing to secure a firework in place if necessary before lighting it,
making sure rockets are angled away from people/property before lighting it and/or failing to ensure it can rise freely unimpeded before lighting,
and making sure wheels can spin freely but are properly secured to a post before lighting.
These precautions DO reduce the risks of accidents occuring and provided these are followed with the instructions NOBODY GETS HURT but I would not expect you burner and mavrick to understand that at all.

you're another dogooder! I dont set off fireworks before the day anyway:also what you forget is weather dictates when you can set them off-if its wet on the fifth of november how can you do it without ruining the fireworks eh? Explain that. But oh no then again only a simpleton like yourself would suggest that! If nov5th falls on a mon-thurs what you also ignore is that not everybody has time to do it on the 5th november and tend to push it to the weekend nearest the fifth of nov.
