A CLUBBER who left a man scarred for life after throwing a glass across a crowded nightclub has been banned from all licensed premises for six months.
Daniel Ormerod, 20, of Amberwood Drive, Blackburn escaped a prison sentence after he admitted throwing the glass in a fit of rage at Preston Crown Court.
The court heard designated driver Daniel Grayston was enjoying a night out with friends at Whalley nightclub Rendezvous, when a glass thrown from across the dancefloor hit him on the face, narrowly missing his left eye.
The 25-year-old, who had not been drinking, said he instantly experienced the ‘worst pain he had ever felt’ and was lucky not to lose his eye.
Scarred for life, the fire and security engineer, of Queen Mary Terrace, Whalley was left with a deep wound to his cheek needing 21 stitches, deep cuts to his lip, as well as deep bruising, prosecutors said.
The court heard a scuffle broke out on the dance floor around five metres away from Mr Grayston and his friends.
The club’s security staff spotted the trouble immediately and separated two men arguing between themselves.
As they were led away in separate directions, Ormerod turned around and threw his pint glass, the court heard.
The glass missed the intended target, instead hitting innocent bystander Mr Grayston.
Security staff performed a citizens arrest and detained Ormerod until police arrived, the court heard.
Sentencing Ormerod to eight months in prison suspended for two years, Judge Christopher Cornwall, ordered him to complete 200 hours unpaid work.
Ormerod was also made the subject of a curfew electronically monitored between 8am and 6pm, handed a six month ban from all licensed premises and ordered to pay £2,000 compensation.
Speaking after the sentencing, Mr Grayston said: “I am really happy with the outcome. That punishment is more than I could of imagined.
“Especially the ban from licensed premises. if Ormerod can not control himself when he is under the influence of alcohol he should not be allowed out in public.”
