Phone scam ‘line test’ warning to Rishton residents
4:48pm Thursday 11th October 2012 in News
COUNCILLORS in Rishton have warned residents to be on the alert for a phone scam affecting the area.
Councillors Ken Moss, Harry Grayson, and Clare Cleary, said scammers were ringing pretending to be engineers testing mobile phone lines.
However, they then talked the victim into allowing access to their details.
The fraudsters are said to be using a device in which once you press #90, or #09, they can access the SIM card and make calls at the victim’s expense.
Coun Ken Moss said: “If you receive a phone call on your mobile from any person, saying that he, or she, is a company engineer, and you have to press certain numbers, end the call immediately without pressing any numbers.
“Inform as many colleagues, relatives, and friends as you can, to stop it.”
