Spitfire will be placed in Darwen

A REPLICA Spitfire will soon be erected in Darwen to commemorate the plane bought by the town during the Second World War.

Metal fabrication firm WEC has produced the model and the erection is set to go ahead.

Darwen Town Council deputy chairman Coun Trevor Maxfield said: “I have spoken with Peter Roberts from WEC on numerous occasions and at this point in time we are waiting for WEC’s owner to return from holiday as he would like to have an active role in the alignment of the spitfire.

“We have accepted a tender for fitting the Spitfire from a Darwen company and await developments. The opening date should be decided in consultation with Darwen Royal British Legion.”

I hope they manage to do something to stop the morons vandalising it without detracting from the display.
