Ribble Valley Beat-Herder music festival flushed with new success

THE Ribble Valley’s Beat-Herder music festival is hoping to flush away the competition in a bid to win five national awards.

The three-day extravaganza, which was headlined by Orbital and Death in Vegas, is competing against more than 200 British contemporary music festivals, like BBC Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend, Reading and Leeds and Creamfields, for the UK Festival Awards titles.

The categories Beat-Herder has entered include the best dance event, best small festival and best toilets, which is a compulsory category for all festivals. It will also be hoping to pick up awards for best line-up and the extra festivals award, which Nick Chamber, one of the event’s promoters, said would mean the most to win.

He said: “It is about festivals that go the extra mile and about their attention to detail and that is what Beat Herder is all about, it just describes us.

“Going to awards ceremonies is something that is out of our comfort zone, we are not used to it and we are not corporate people, so it will be quite interesting.

“For us it is always about putting on the best event we can, winning an award might help highlight our profile, but it would not change anything we do.”

The event took place this year near Clitheroe from June 29 to July 1 and was attended by around 10,000 people.

The top ten shortlists in each category will be announced on November 5 and the overall winners will be announced and presented with their accolades at the gala ceremony, which will be hosted by Never Mind the Buzzcocks panellist Phill Jupitus, at the Roundhouse in London on December 3.
