Accrington and Rossendale College launches 'employment academy'
11:14am Monday 8th October 2012 in News
AN EAST Lancashire college is running an “employment academy” to help the unemployed find long-term job prospects.
Accrington and Rossendale College run the Employment Academy, based at Accrington’s Globe Centre.
The Employment Academy works with unemployed people suggesting practical ways of finding their way back into employment.
The academy assesses what skills each person needs to get back in work.
It also offers short, accredited, work-related training in a number of occupational areas relevant to job vacancies across Hyndburn, Rossendale and Ribble Valley.
The scheme is backed by Hyndburn MP Graham Jones.
Michelle Walsh, trainer at the Employment Academy, said: “Getting people into good, solid jobs with long- term prospects is at the top everyone’s agenda and we’ve had a lot of support from Mr Jones.”
He said: “Helping people to improve their employment prospects is absolutely vital.
“The better the reputation of Hyndburn and Haslingden’s workforce, the more employers will choose to bring their businesses to our area.”
