Hyndburn council considers move to 'paperless meetings'

A COUNCIL is to consider ‘paperless meetings’ as a cost-cutting exercise.

A report into possible savings at Hyndburn Council is to examine the cost of printing agendas for regular meetings, and the potential savings.

The overview and scrutiny committee has asked the council’s leader to report on progress on allowing better electronic access to agendas and reports.

Leader Miles Parkinson has already asked for proposals to be worked up to facilitate electronic access to agendas and agenda papers by councillors.

If approved, it will see a move to “paperless meetings”, and the introduction of other housekeeping measures.

Part of the new procedure will encourage council officers to communicate with councillors via email, rather than by letter and post.

Member services Manager Helen Gee said: “To make this happen, it will involve updating the equipment supplied and a move towards tablet technology.”
