Legion plea for poppy helpers in Blackburn
THE Royal British Legion in Blackburn is appealing for volunteers to help run this year’s Poppy Appeal.
Organiser Eddie Maxwell said: “Anyone can volunteer, individuals, teams, community groups, and any reasonable out of pocket expenses will be covered.
“If you can give some of your time to help collect donations at supermarkets and other manned stands like hospitals, or help distribute and collect boxes and tins to and from outlets within Blackburn, please contact us.
“The Royal British Legion also wants to attract new members after numbers have decreased steadily over the last few years. If you are a community group, service or indeed an individual and would like to order a poppy wreath to lay at a remembrance service, please call.”

Most of them don't seem to relaise what we owe to the people who fought in all previous wars up to and including WW2: freedom of speech and movement, the ability to elect the current government, the right to follow a religion, the list goes on.....
Personally I like to honour the dead of ALL wars: certainly with recent conflicts there is disagreement as to the validity of the cause. However, that should not affect the honour due to those who serve their country without question and pay the ultimate price.
I will, as always, be wearing my poppy with pride.

The reason why I ask is because I was based in India's Bahadurs Dogra Regiment, and encountered the Japs at Malaya.

I am too young (as are my parents) to have had any involvement in that war, but please be assured that many of us appreciate what you and your family members did for us. One of the most important things we can do is to remember. Once we forget, the troubles begin again.
RIP the dead of all wars.
