Public urged to vote for Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner

THERE are less than 50 days until Lancashire votes for its first-ever Police and Crime Commissioner.

Lancashire Police Authority (LPA) is encouraging residents to have their say at the election on November 15.

The election will see the LPA replaced by a Police and Crime Commissioner who will be responsible for setting the policing budget and will be the voice of the county when it comes to tackling crime.

Lancashire Police Authority chief executive Miranda Carruthers-Watt, right, said: “We want the people of Lancashire to feel involved and engaged in this election.

“The candidate who is chosen will have a lot of responsibility when it comes to policing and tackling crime in Lancashire.”

Just one of the many ridiculous ideas implemented and ratified by a combination of Tom Winsor, Theresa May and David Cameron. Yet another nail hammered into the coffin of the finest Police service in the world.

The two Candidates are linked to Political Parties, and will no doubt have those parties funds and workers behind them.
This Democratic country has no intention of allowing Independants to stand by making the cost of standing prohibative.
Whoever gets the job will have the backlash of the former Police Authority who have allowed the Police Service, and I use the term Service loosely,to be run into the ground.
No matter what you are told the current service provided is nothing but scandelous, the streets belong to the wrongdoers. Why are so many people afraid to go out at night. How many people have reported incidents only to be told a Police Officer will attend several days down the line, thats if your lucky, many a time you are provided with a crime/incident number.
All people should boycott this election,no votes would inform the Government that people are not happy with their lot.
These comments arn't a dig at those at thhe sharp end but those who wield the power.

Anybody who thinks the police aren't already political needs to get real!!!

This is a decent policy and will make policing more accountable!

It's not clear who has put their name forwards yet.

Still it doesn't make any difference since whoever gets the job will dance to the party tune.

If we knew whoo the candidates were it would help. They should not be allowed to belong to any political parties or openly religious groups either. They are there to represent everybody not just their own cronies

Yes I know. With all the good intentions that may be behind this idea. I is open to corruption. One person in charge is not a good idea. A singular point of view is not good for democracy. We need groups of people with a collection of views and ideas. Thats called democracy. One is a dictatorship!

Dictators are not elected. As I said, it's democracy. In the forthcoming election you will get groups of people with a collection of ideas who will vote for their preferred candidate - It's just like voting for your preferred candidate in a general election or bye-election - The one who gets the most votes will be elected. How is that dictatorship?
