TV inspires vintage clothing boom in Darwen

A VINTAGE clothing store based in Darwen is preparing for an influx of orders from customers inspired by TV dramas.

Emma Brown, director of retail website My Vintage, said clothes from the 1960s and 70s have become the new trend after TV dramas such as Life on Mars and, more recently, Mrs Biggs.

Emma said the site www.myvintage.co.uk had experienced an increase in customers looking for clothes from this period.

She said: “It’s clothes from the 60s and 70s that our clients want at the moment.

“Many say that they are inspired by clothes worn on the current television period dramas.

“Added to that, they saw during London Fashion Week the increased use of velvets, embellishment, and psychedelic fabric and prints for 2013.

“A similar upsurge in consumer spending on vintage clothing happened in 2010 when American TV series Mad Men rose to huge popularity, and the glamorous styles from the 1950s and early 1960s were in great demand.”
