A BLACKBURN woman is enjoying the sweet taste of success by supplying stage and screen celebrities with indulgent treats.
Deanne Perkins, 31, originally from the Livesey area, but now living in Essex, set up Sweet Dreams Candy Bars last year, making sweet packages, including a pick and mix stall, and ‘sweet trees’.
Her candy cart has now been booked by celebrities such as The Only Way is Essex’s Harry Derbridge, Amy Childs, Gemma Collins, actor Danny Dyer, comedian Russell Kane, and ex-footballer Neil Ruddock.
Deanne, a former pupil at St Bede’s High School, said: “This all started last year at the time of my 30th when I was looking for someone to supply a sweet buffet for my party.
“The only ones I could find were all charging £500 for three hours and only had a few vases of sweets, so I decided I could do better myself.
“After that my friends and family started asking for them for weddings and parties.
“Then I saw the candy cart advertised and got it.
“Then one day I tweeted Harry Derbridge, from The Only Way is Essex, asking if he wanted the candy cart for his 18th birthday. He said ‘yes’, and it’s spiralled from there.
“In Essex they all want what the other person has got, so I’ve managed to get bookings from quite a lot of the TOWIE cast, and their friends.”
Deanne, who has sons aged seven and three, used to work in finance in London, but now works full time for Sweet Dreams Candy Bars.
She said: “The most popular sweets are the retro ones that take people back to their childhoods, like flying saucers and blackjacks.”
Deanne has now joined forces with 13 other brands, including Fake Bake and Barry M Cosmetics, to become part of a new initiative called The Glam Squad Inc, aimed at increasing brand awareness.
