STARGAZERS across East Lancashire spotted a bright meteor shower late on Friday night.

At around 11pm, bright moving lights could be seen in the sky, and social networking sites went into a meltdown with reported sightings.

Coastguards in Belfast also reported that they had taken a number of calls from people who saw the strange objects in the sky, and further sightings were made in Dublin.

The lights were also seen in Edinburgh, Glasgow and other parts of Scotland.

Experts at Jodrell Bank in Cheshire believe it was space junk burning up in the atmosphere.
