Darwen teacher sex case suffers a new delay

A 26-year-old male teacher has appeared in court for the third time charged with sexual assault on a 14-year-old pupil and abuse of his position of trust.

The charges against Christopher Robert Midgley, of Brookside, Coppull, Chorley, involve a pupil at Darwen Aldridge Community Academy.

Midgeley had been due to enter a plea at Preston Crown Court on Wednesday but the case was adjourned until October 5 as his defence solicitors had not seen a transcript of police interviews.

A provisional date for a four-day trial has been set for February 18.

He has been released on bail with the condition that he has no unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 16 and no communication with the alleged victim.
