Blackburn thieves target car airbags

THIEVES have been stealing airbags to order from cars in Blackburn.

Detectives have launched an investigation after three cars in the Feniscowles area of the town were broken into in early hour attacks.

Police said the owners of three Toyota Aygos found their vehicles in a ‘real mess’ after thieves forced the locks on the doors and stole the airbag systems.

The cars, left undriveable after the thefts, were parked in Park Farm Road, Cyprus Ridge and Langdale Road, all in the Livesey Branch Road area.

Lancashire Constabulary’s tar- get team, which is leading the investigation, said the airbags look to have been stolen to order. DS Tim McDermott said: “Three vehicles have been targeted for their airbag systems. These offences have clearly been carried out by a professional who has mechanical ability.

“With the same type of vehicle being targeted in each theft it is clear these parts were stolen to order. I appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious overnight on Monday to come forward. This is not a two minute of a job. The thief would have needed a vehicle to carry his tools and the airbag systems.

“I also appeal for any local garage owners who have been offered suspicious car parts to come forward.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101.

I was thinking along different lines since an airbag requires a small explosive charge to inflate...
Already pre-wired, when combined together they can make an awesome mess if one were to top it off with a bag of ball bearings..
Or perhaps I've been spending too much time in thinking about the old days of Northern Ireland and nail bombs.

These articles, in the wrong hands are extremely dangerous and no attempt should be made by anyone to interfere with a cluster of them that they find. They can be a version of the Improvised Explosive Device that is common in the sub-asian world of stupidity.

Am utterly sure that, once over, when railway detonators went missing, the Police used to issue a warning about these kinds of devices and how they could cause harm if mis-handled.
